Arek Hersh

Story

Introduction

Arek was born in Poland and at the age of 11 he was taken to a labour camp. He also spent time in the Lodz ghetto before being transported to Auschwitz. In the closing months of the war he was sent first to Buchenwald and then to Theresienstadt, having survived a month in open top wagons in sub-zero temperatures. You can watch Arek giving his testimony in the Survivor Stories section of the website.
